Since the acclaimed jazz singer was still quite young at the time of this release and had only four albums to her name, it may seem a bit premature to release an album tiled THE VERY BEST OF JANE MONHEIT. Yet Monheit's vocal gifts are such that a best-of compilation seems far from precocious, especially since Monheit has more nuance, precision, and timbral control than most jazz singers twice her age.
